Founded in 1915, and in continuous operation for over 108 years, Chatham Steel’s company culture focuses on fast turnarounds and precision cut-to-length services.
Chatham Steel is a leading supplier of various flat rolled steel products, maintaining a vast inventory of carbon steel plate and sheet in diverse thicknesses, sizes, and specialty grades. In addition to carbon steel, we also offer stainless steel, aluminum plate, and sheet materials. If there’s a special item not in stock, our extensive mill and vendor contacts make it possible to obtain it quickly and easily. Mill Test Reports are available.
Notable steel grades such as ASTM A36 Steel Plate is widely used in modern industry and construction projects, with a 36,000 PSI minimum yield strength. Often used for bridges, buildings, automotive equipment, and various machine parts. Examples include: A36 plate, ASTM a36 steel plate, ASTM A36 plate, ASTM A36, and A36 carbon steel plate.
ASTM A572 Grade 50 Steel Plate provides an upgrade from A36 and other lower-strength steels, with a 50 KSI yield strength and 65 KSI tensile strength. Its ability to use thinner profiles and cross sections makes it a preferred choice for many types of commercial and industrial applications.
PVQ, or Pressure Vessel Quality steel sheets and plates are used for specialized applications requiring resistance to high pressure, and are engineered to withstand pressure from gas or other pressure-sensitive substances. Examples include: pressure vessel (ABS hull) quality steel, and PVQ plates.
For projects that require advanced levels of structural performance, high strength low alloy steel plate, known as HSLA (High-Strength Low Alloy) steel is used whenever there are stringent structural specifications for various applications.
Armor Plate, made of hardened martensitic steel, is used to resist forces from detonation and also offer excellent wear resistance. Widely used in the defense industry and civilian applications also, armor plate is employed in armored vehicles, security doors, bank counters, and many others.
Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled, also known in the industry as HRPO Steel Sheets, are specially treated steel sheets that undergo acid pickling to remove scaling, stains, and rust. Commonly used in fabrication and structural projects that require durability, HRPO steel achieves specified strength with improved resistance to harsh environments.Chatham Steel’s selection of hot rolled pickled and oiled (HRPO) steel sheets is competitively priced.
Cold Rolled (CR) Steel Sheets are available with improved mechanical properties, surface finish, gauge tolerance, and strip shape. Additional processes like pickling, cold reduction, annealing, and temper rolling are used to enhance durability and corrosion resistance.
Chatham Steel offers Commercial Quality, or CQ Steel Sheets for various manufacturing needs, and are available in a variety of thicknesses and sizes. Commercial quality (CQ) steel sheets are commonly used in bending, drawing, stamping, and general manufacturing operations.
Other specialty steel products include (diamond pattern) floor plates (4-way safety pattern) floor plates, galvanized sheets, and discrete plates.
Chatham Steel maintains an extensive selection of stainless steel plate, known for its clean, corrosion-resistant finish, often preferred for applications in airports, hotels, and industrial construction projects. Additionally, we offer aluminum plate, prized for its strength-to-weight ratio, thermal performance, and corrosion resistance.
Our diverse selection of flat rolled products includes HRPO, cold rolled, coated-galvanized, coated-galvalume, sheet, and slit coil formats. They also provide value-added services such as pre-painting and turret punching. You may review an extensive listing of Chatham Steel’s available plate and sheet in the Buyer’s Guide below.
